NASA Scientists Discover The Largest Comet Ever Seen

April 18, 2022 by Jeffrey Herrera

More than a decade after It was discovered in 2010 by NASA Hubble Telescope. This confirms that it is the largest known comet nucleus.

Bernardinelli and Bernstein are two of the most prominent comet scientists in the world today. They have been working together on a comet for over twenty years and their work has recently culminated in the publication of a paper that claims to have found evidence that a new comet is on its way to Earth.

C/2014 UN271 was identified as a massive comet with an estimated diameter of 80 miles. This makes it larger than Rhode Island in the United States.

Its nucleus is approximately 50 times more than the mass of the most known comets. Its mass is approximately 500 trillion tonnes. This is about a hundred thousand times the mass of a typical comet.

NASA scientists have discovered the largest comet ever seen. NASA scientists have discovered the largest comet ever seen, and it’s about to make a close approach to our planet. The comet is roughly two-thirds the size of Earth and is estimated to be about 800 million years old.

A comet is a small, icy, dusty celestial body that, as it approaches the Sun, warms up and releases gas and dust. This gas and dust form a tail that points away from the Sun. Comets are believed to be remnants of the early solar system. NASA scientists have discovered the largest comet ever seen. The object, called C/2013 A1, is estimated to be about two-thirds the size of Earth and has a nucleus three times the size of our planet’s. The asteroid was first spotted on October 15th by astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope.

The Composition of the Comet is an article that discusses the findings of a study that was conducted in order to determine the composition of comets. The study found that comets are made up of a variety of different elements, including water, carbon dioxide, and ammonia. This information could help us to better understand how comets form and what they might be composed of.

NASA stated that “The massive comet is speeding along the edge of our solar system at 22,000 mph,” on its official website.

NASA tweeted, “And don’t worry: The comet will still do not come closer to the earth than Saturn,”

Astronomers Gary Bernstein and Pedro Bernardinelli discovered Comet C/2014 in images taken from Chile’s Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. It was seen in November 2010, at three billion miles from Sun, roughly the same distance as Neptune.

The previous record was held by Comet C/2002 VQ94, which had a nucleus measuring approximately 60 miles in length. It was discovered by the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research Project (LINEAR) in 2002.
