Facebook Launches A College-Only Online Space Called Facebook Campus

Facebook is planning to go back to its roots and this is why it has decided to launch a college-only online space called Facebook Campus. Facebook, which was initially just a colleges-only network, has decided to launch this feature as several colleges are shifting to full-time or partial remote learning. The social media giant is rolling out this feature to thirty universities in the United States. The Facebook app will have a dedicated section of the Facebook Campus. College students can create their Campus profile using their college email id and graduation year. Students will have the option to fill details like their major, classes, and hometown. This profile will be different from their main Facebook profile. But the California based company has not announced anything about when this feature will be extended in other countries.

Students can use Facebook Campus to discover events and groups unique to their school on this platform and connect with classmates. The content shared on Facebook Campus will be visible only to those who are part of it. The company said that if someone has blocked a profile on Facebook, that person will not be able to search you on the Campus directory. Facebook Campus product manager Charmaine Hung said that the Facebook Campus will help students to be in touch with their classmates even if they are away from their colleges. “It was a college-only network initially and now we are allowing students to get connected with their mates who share similar interests,” Hung added.

Facebook Campus will have a unique feature that makes it different from regular Facebook. It will have a college-specific news feed that will provide students all updates from events and groups. The app will allow students to create groups and plan virtual concerts. Apart from this, it will offer chat-room and classmate directory features. The Facebook Campus is an attempt to pulls back young people who have been shifting to other social media platforms over the past few years.
