CDC Said NYC Might Have More Deaths Than Official Tally

May 25, 2020 by Samuel Roan

When it comes to coronavirus, NYC is that region which has so far gotten most affected by this deadly virus. Thousands of people have died, and lakhs of people have been diagnosed with this virus, but the recent report from CDC shows a darker side. CDC said the official number of deaths happening in NYC by coronavirus is nearly 14800 deaths. However, experts think the number of fatalities in NYC could be more significant than this official tally number. Health experts said they believe 5200 more fatalities happened where no tests were done on them. So there is a high probability that they died because of the coronavirus outbreak but couldn’t be included in the list.

From March Till 2nd May 24000, more people died than experts prediction, which shows people are dying more by not receiving medical treatment at home. Many experts think the number could be more significant than the actual one because people who have been killed didn’t get to go to the hospital, or tested for it. Now due to a lack of resources, they might not have known about the actual reason behind their death. The burden over hospitals and the staff is impacting severely on heart-related patients also. People are not able to get regular treatment because hospital staff are busy with coronavirus patients.

People who are getting admitted to the hospitals are major because of coronavirus, and others are not getting medical treatment at the right time. Deaths happened because coronavirus are less reported all over the world, and that’s because of less amount of testing. Still, in NYC, many people who have died and couldn’t be tested might be positive for coronavirus, and that’s worrying health experts considering its adverse impact.

Increasing Joblessness Will Be Impacting Severely On US Economy And Politics

May 22, 2020 by Samuel Roan

Currently, if there’s one thing that’s worrying the world’s influential leaders, then it’s a coronavirus and its impact on their country. The Trump administration got lots of criticism from some people for implementing lockdown lately, which increased the cases of coronavirus significantly. Now, these numbers are soaring every day that has severely impacted on the jobs of ordinary American citizens. Now experts are saying that the increasing number of jobless people will effect on the country’s economy and politics for a long time.

Many companies who have lost their primary source of revenues during this pandemic situation are trying to recover theri cost by letting go of their staff. The number of unemployed people is at its highest peak since the great depression era. The Trump administration is getting advised not to let older adults who are aged above sixty since they are at the highest risk of getting diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. Young folks who will be graduating soon will be out of the jobs about which they might not have ever imagined.

Things are getting changed quickly because many companies are relying more on machinery stuff than manuals now. The pandemic situation has shown a dark side of our economic system might work if things get harder. Tech companies are already telling their workers to work from home since it would be better for the health of themselves, and would save the right amount of money for big companies.

However, these changes, which are impacting severely on the economy, will leave its impact on political parties also. The government administration which was looking forward to making big campaigns to win the general election will have to work hard to make sure everyone’s healthy and safe. Currently, the political environment is quite more toxic than it was the era of the great depression.

The Man Who A few Days Ago Called Coronavirus As “Fake Crisis” Tested Positive

May 21, 2020 by Samuel Roan

Millions of people are still scared of getting infected with the deadly coronavirus; however, some people are still roaming without overthinking. A Florida man who called coronavirus a “fake crisis” has recently been hospitalised because he had been tested positive for it. Florida man who said the virus has “blown out of proportion” is now hospitalised along with his wife. He recently shared his experience on a Facebook post about the current condition of the deadly virus. Brian Hitchen, who is an uber driver, said he believed that the coronavirus is not real and it’s a fake crisis which is created by the government.

However, after getting diagnosed with it, and stopped working, he admitted to being wrong. Hitchens didn’t give that much importance to the pandemic situation and was working without any fear. However, when he started getting sick, and hposp[italsied he finally admitted the pandemic was real. Hitchens said when the couple got sick quite severely, they went to the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. He mentioned that they were admitted immediately and sent to the ICU. Hitchens started to feel quite right after a few days; however, his wife got sickened worse, and the doctors had to put her on a ventilator.

He mentioned how he felt better without being put on a ventilator and had to face weakness and aches only. But his wife’s been sedated for three weeks now, and he is quite worried about her condition. Since this means the doctors might not be able to save her, but he mentioned believing in miracles, and not losing hope. The coronavirus has killed thousands of people, and health experts are trying to tell people that they should take it off themselves since no one can protect them from this deadly virus.

Berkshire Hathaway Sold Majority Of Its Stake In Goldman Sachs

May 18, 2020 by Samuel Roan

The legendary investor Warren Buffet, also known as the Oracle of Omaha, for his right decision to choose the right type of investments, has shocked many analysts after deciding to sell most of the stake in Goldman Sachs. Berkshire Hathaway, which stood behind Goldman Sachs during the 2008 financial crisis, has sold the majority of its stake in Goldman Sachs. Berkshire said that they had sold 10 million shares of Goldman Sachs worth $2.3 billion at the end of the year. The sale represents a 2.3% stake of Berkshire Hathaway in Goldman Sachs. After selling that much amount of shares now, Berkshire Hathaway has 1.9 million shares or a 0.6 percent stake in Goldman Sachs.

Berkshire Hathway also sold its 0.6 percent stake in JPMorgan Chase. Warren Buffet, who is known for making multi-billion dollar deals, hasn’t done anything significant during this pandemic situation. He mentioned how the current situation would impact the government’s economic policies during the annual shareholders meeting. During the 2008 financial crisis, Warren Buffet decided to invest $5 billion, which gave him a tremendous amount of returns per year. However, it was costly for Goldman Sachs, they also did not perform up to expectations, and many competitors got ahead with the time.

Buffet recently invested a large amount of money into Delta Airlines and other airline stocks, which got a massive hot during April. Warren Buffet told the investors that they had invested nearly $7-8 billion in airline stocks for the last few years, and now most of them are not performing well because of the pandemic situation. Buffet dumped airline stocks also and tried to figure out the right type of actions to choose; however, this time, the decisions taken by Warren Buffet are quite different than those in the 2008 financial crisis.

Because Of Extended Lockdown Rules In California, Musk Threatens To Move Out Tesla Factory

May 13, 2020 by Samuel Roan

Every business person is currently going through lots of tough times because they are not able to do the business properly because of the lockdown rules put by the local and federal government. Elon Musk, the tech billionaire who is famous for running multiple projects, is quite unhappy with Alameda county in California after the county refused to let Musk start a Tesla factory. Recently Elon Musk requested California government officials to let Tesla factory begin its work; however, that did not go as expected by Mr. Musk. The government officials from California and Alameda County refused to permit reopening the Tesla factory stating the severe side effects it will bring on the health of people.

Musk, after getting this refusal, is not in a good state of mind and threatened the county to shift Tesla factories elsewhere. Musk, in a various series of tweets, said he is thinking of moving the Tesla factory to Nevada or Texas. Tesla recently notified its workers about the reopening of the factory a few days ago, and the company hasn’t given comments on it. Since Alameda County health officials decided not to open the factories soon because of the possibility that this deadly virus will be infecting many people, Musk is not entirely happy with this decision. Musk, in his tweet, even said that the company is going to file a lawsuit against Alameda County for not letting them open the factory in a safe environment.

Tesla is claiming that they fall under the critical infrastructure service sector, and they need to restart the factory soon. However, Alameda County doesn’t think that way, and they preferred not to let any company start the manufacturing operations considering the possibility of coronavirus spread. Cases of coronavirus are increasing very significantly in the USA, and health officials from all countries are making decisions accordingly.

E-scooter Company Lime Decided To Cut Off 13% Of Its Staff

May 4, 2020 by Samuel Roan

The pandemic situation has impacted all kinds of startups. They are struggling to manage their vast amount of expenses, and that’s why they did not earn a single amount of revenue lockdown. Recent reports from E-scooter company Lime state that they have decided to lay off 13% of its current staff because of the financial problem facing during this time. Brad Bao, who is the CEO of Lime, set in a letter letting 80 employees of the company. Brad said that these employees will get an email confirmation, and are required to follow the procedure before leaving their job. Different reports about how Lime companies are all on the verge of success and they were close to making a profit.

However, because of a pandemic situation more than 99% their operations have been shut down which is creating a substantial financial burden on the company, and they had to take this decision of letting go employees. Earlier this year Lime scooter company said that there are 100 employees to make the company profitable. However, management says they did not anticipate such kind of global pandemic situation, which will force them to shut down their operations in every country they operate.

White House Advisor Said The Rate Of Unemployment Will Be Worse Than Ever Before

April 30, 2020 by Samuel Roan

Millions of people in the country are locked down in their homes because of the spread of deadly coronavirus. People who used to work daily to feed their families have to stay at home and rely upon government emergency funds. However, the rate of unemployment as of now seems to be bigger, might get worse in the future. According to White House advisor Kevin Hassett warned the country about upcoming financial troubles. He said the rate of unemployment next month would reach 16%; it would be the start of another great depression era.

Things are already starting to get worse because millions of people in the first week of lockdown filed for unemployment to get funds from the government. He said that the next couple of months are going to be terrible for the overall economy of our country. According to him, the current situation is far like the great depression era because at that time, more than 8.6 million have lost their job, and the same thing is happening right now. Things are getting out of hand since the number of unemployed people relying on the government are increasing every day, which is going to create more problems than anyone’s anticipations. Hassett said the coronavirus impact which our country is facing is the worst thing he has ever seen.

Recently Trump, while discussing the current situation with Tim Cook, said that he is expecting a V-Shape curve, meaning the economy will get back on track quickly. Even considering the present worse case, the Trump administration thinks reopening the economy will improve the situation soon. The Treasury Secretary also seemed to be confident about the recovery of the economy. Still, according to Hassett, it will take lots of time, plus the rate of unemployment will make things harder than ever before.

US Intelligence Said North Korean Leader Is In Severe Condition After Going Through A Major Operation

April 22, 2020 by Samuel Roan

According to US intelligence, North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un recently went through major surgery and might be in danger. According to the reports given by US intelligence to the media, it said that Kim Jong Un recently went through major surgery and has been hospitalized because of his severe health condition. Reports from intelligence are not entirely specific, but it shows that the North Korean Dictator had gone through a major operation and hasn’t been seen by media or intelligent sources from the last four days.

The main question arises about Kim Jong Un’s health when nobody saw him at his grandfather’s birthday on 15th April. Earlier before this, he had already been seen meeting government officials and planning about eliminating the coronavirus situation. The National Security Council said that they are keeping a close eye on Kim Jong Un’s health, but they haven’t received specific data about it. They are still trying their best to find out the level of severity of Kim Jong Un’s health after his major surgery.

National Security Analysts think since North Korea is a restricted place and information doesn’t get quickly out of it. Still, they are trying their best to find out about Kim Jong Un’s health condition. According to sources, Kim went through a cardiovascular surgery on April 12. He had been famous for following not such healthy habits like drinking, smoking, and being obese for a long time and because of which his health deteriorated to the lowest level, and he had to undergo major surgery.

Meanwhile, South Korea decided not to comment on this whole issue, which again raises more questions about the authenticity of this source. However, many analysts think that North Korean leaders must have gone through major surgery, and it would be a matter of a few days when they will know everything about it.

Researchers Spotted Some New Minor Planets Beyond the Solar System

March 16, 2020 by Samuel Roan

Researchers have discovered more than 100 novel minor planets beyond the last planet of our solar system. The so-called TNOs or trans-Neptunian objects are nothing but minor planets present in the far corners of our solar system. The research released in the Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, details on a new method for discovering identical types of objects. Even more, it could assist future studies for the theoretical discoveries like Planet Nine and other unfound planets. Professors Masao Sako and Gary Bernstein and a graduate student from Pedro Bernardinelli have directed the research.

The team has used data from the DES (Dark Energy Survey), which has recently accomplished six years of data gathering. The DES aims to recognize the nature of dark energy by gathering high-resolution images of the southern sky. But the survey did not intend to discover TNOs, as its depth of coverage and depth made it precisely adept at identifying novel objects further than Neptune. But astronomers have found 139 new minor planets or say the small entities are revolving around the sun. The study highlights the minor planets are neither comets nor asteroids which reside in the frigid, dark depths beyond Neptune’s orbit. The new add-ons contribute around 5% to the existing number of trans-Neptunian Objects.

The scientists began with 7 billion dots spotted in DES. After that, they divided to 22 million transients after exclusion of objects like galaxies that seemed in coarsely the same spot on multiple nights. Later they picked 400 TNO objects from those millions of objects. It took months of screening and observation for the team to verify 316 of the minor planets. As per the team, these classified objects rest between 30-90 AU from the sun. Above all, the newly-developed techniques by the scientists could assist future TNO searches, including those possibly carried out by the Vera C. Rubin Telescope. Bernardinelli, the study’s leading author, said one could easily apply their array of the programs to any other colossal dataset.

After Android and iOS, WhatsApp Developing Dark Mode For Web, Desktop

February 27, 2020 by Samuel Roan

The Dark Mode is one of the most awaited features of popular messaging app WhatsApp. The company has not released any official statement regarding the availability of the feature. But it has been testing the beta versions of the dark theme on Android and iOS platforms for months. The Facebook-owned app is now believed to be working on the dark mode feature for its desktop version. The company said its development team is working to implement the dark theme correctly and ensure the bug-free experience for the users. It said the team still needs to tweak a bit the user interface. But the company has got some great results in the initial phase.

Reports suggest the background color for emojis is not transparent for the desktop version. It still appears in white color. The dark mode feature is in the early stages of development. It is unlikely that it will be made available anytime soon. The dark mode feature was initially discussed way back in 2018. It is likely that the stable Android and iOS versions will be released later this year. WhatsApp Web users will have to wait a bit longer for the theme. The theme for WhatsApp Web will probably be rolled out after the feature becomes available on Android and iOS platforms.

The Facebook-owned app recently released an update for the dark mode theme for its Android beta version. The theme was made available to beta users on iOS last month. It recently released an update for iPhone users. The dark mode does not change the whole outlook of the app. As the name suggests, it turns the background to a dark color. More and more apps are slowly rolling out dark mode as it comes with numerous benefits. It increases smartphones’ battery life and makes the interface eye-friendly. Facebook-owned Instagram has a full-fledged black mode. The social media giant has already started adding the dark theme to Facebook Lite on Android.

Scientists Discover An Innovative Device ‘Air Gen’ To Generate Electricity Out Of Thin Air

February 19, 2020 by Samuel Roan

Scientists from the University of Massachusetts Amherst have developed a new device, which can generate electricity from the moisture present in the air. This device is called ‘Air-gen’. It uses natural protein to produce electricity from thin air. Experts have said that the new technology will be beneficial for the future of renewable energy, climate change and the field of medicine. Microbiologist Derek Lovley and electrical engineer Jun Yao have developed this air-powered generator. It has been made out of electrically conductive protein nanowires.

These nanowires have been produced by the microbe Geobacter. The Air-gen joins the electrodes to the protein nanowires to produce electricity from the water vapor naturally present in the atmosphere. According to the makers, this device can generate clean energy round the clock. Experts have claimed that the new technology is pollution-free, renewable, and cost-effective. They have said that this device can produce electricity in places with low humidity like the Sahara desert. It has advantages over other forms of renewable energy such as solar and wind, as it does not need sunlight or wind to function. This technology works indoors as well.

Scientists have told that Air-gen needs 10 microns thick protein wires to function. The bottom of the film sets on the electrodes and the smaller electrodes, which wraps the nanowires film sits on the top. The film soaks the moisture from the atmosphere. A combination of electrical conductivity and chemistry of the protein wires creates a condition, which generates the electricity between the two electrodes. As per the experts, the current generation of the device is sufficient to supply power to small electronics. Researchers are working to bring this invention on a commercial scale in the future.

Experts have informed that they are planning to come up with a small Air-gen ‘patch’, which can power electronic wearables like, fitness monitors, which might replace the requirement of traditional batteries in the future. They have planned to develop an Air-gen device, which can be used in cellphones as well. If scientists succeed in making such a device, users would not need periodic charging for their mobile phones. Jun Yao Has informed us that they are focusing on making large-scale systems, which can be used as wall painting to power households. Experts have claimed that this is just the beginning of a new epoch of Protein-based electronic gadgets.

Facebook Unveils Pinterest Look-Alike Experimental App ‘Hobbi’

February 17, 2020 by Samuel Roan

It seems that Facebook has decided to target Pinterest users now. The company has recently released an experimental app called ‘Hobbi’ where users can document their personal projects and hobbies. From the initial view, this app looks like a clone of Pinterest. This app has taken many cues from Pinterest but it goes a long way. ‘Hobbi’, the photo-sharing app allows users to organize their creative process into a themed collection. Users can make a themed collection for their hobbies like art and craft, recipes, and many others. A lack of social networking component is something, which differentiates this app from other Facebook apps and Pinterest. It enables the users to make a video highlight reel to share via other social platforms. ‘Hobbi’ has been developed by Facebook’s experimental project group.

Facebook has built its product Experimentation team last year itself. The team is called the NPE team. It aims to develop experimental apps outside of the firm’s core brands. This team has developed many tentative apps like a meme making app ‘Whale’, social networking app ‘Bump’ and music DJ mix app called ‘Aux’. However, none of them has attracted much attention from the users. The new app ‘Hobbi’ was initially launched in Columbia, Belgium, Spain, and Ukraine. The app is said to be compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod. It runs smoothly on iOS 11.0 and other advanced versions.

Reports suggest that hours after the launch of ‘Hobbi’, the shares of Pinterest have fallen more than 4 percent. Although this app has a limited release but the features of the app pose a direct competition with Pinterest. Experts say that ‘Hobbi’ lacks the discoverability, search, and recommendations that Pinterest has. The officials of Pinterest have made it clear that ‘Hobbi’ is a different product; it does not have any similarity with their app. Facebook officials have said that the NPE team might make some changes in the app and if it does not work, they will shut it down.

Apple Begins Trial Production Of Small Budget iPhone 9, Launch Likely In March

February 4, 2020 by Samuel Roan

The launch of the much-awaited small budget iPhone 9 is less than a month away. Reports now suggest that the US tech giant Apple has finally started the trial production of the device. The iPhone 9 is expected to come in as the successor to the iPhone SE. The iPhone SE was launched in March 2016. It was Apple’s first budget phone. The new device will be an affordable alternative to premium iPhone 11 variants. The trial production phase will be used to iron out any issues in the handset and make sure assembly lines are running smoothly.

If everything goes as per the plan, Apple will start full mass production of the iPhone 9 in mid-February. The Cupertino-headquartered giant said it will need around six weeks to build up a huge stock of iPhone 9 ahead of its official launch in March. Notably, some Apple loyalists still prefer using a device as the size of the iPhone 5S and iPhone SE. The two smartphones were immensely popular devices by Apple. Perhaps this is why Apple decided to bring a small-screen device. The highly anticipated iPhone 9 from Apple comes at a time when rival companies like Samsung, Huawei, and OnePlus are working on big and gorgeous display smartphones.

The new smartphone by Apple will come with a single rear camera. It will supposedly feature a 4.7-inch display. The dimensions will be 138.5 x 67.4 x 7.8mm. This is identical to the dimensions of the iPhone 8 which was launched in September 2017. To offer improved network connectivity, the company may add the new LCP antenna. It is expected to come with the A13 Bionic SoC. The 64-bit ARM-based system was designed by Apple. It debuted on the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. The device will carry a 3GB RAM. The new iPhone is also expected to use a 10-layer Substrate-like PCB for its motherboard. The same technology was used by Apple in the iPhone 11 line up.

SpaceX Satellites Are Cause Of Concern For Astronomers, Sky Watchers

February 4, 2020 by Samuel Roan

SpaceX recently launched 60 satellites into the orbit to build a broadband internet business around the globe. The satellites appeared in the sky in the form of a string of lights in the night from east to west. These lights were reported from Foxton in Manawatu in Auckland to Waitakere Ranges. This lets the people speculating that they were unidentified flying objects (UFOs). However, it was later turned out to be the satellites launched by the company of Elon Musk. The launch was fourth in the series of Starlink satellites. Starlink project would be a constellation of thousands of small satellites launched by SpaceX to build a broadband internet business. These satellites will work with ground transceivers to provide broadband services.

In this bid, the company has launched 240 satellites so far. However, the initial constellation is expected to have 12,000 satellites and the number would eventually go up to 42,000. But SpaceX’s plans to launch such a large number of satellites have raised some serious concerns from sky gazers and astronomers. They claim that such a large number of satellites will ruin the night sky. The numbers of stars that are visible in the night sky are 9000, far less than proposed SpaceX’s satellites. These satellites become brighter than stars when they reflect sunlight. Moreover, they create trails during their rapid movement and create interference with the work of astronomers. Otago Museum director Ian Griffin termed it a ‘night sky emergency’ in a tweet.

SpaceX is not the only company to blame for it as OneWeb, Amazon, and others are also planning to launch satellites to provide broadband net services across the globe. Recently, OneWeb and SpaceX met with astronomers to talk about the impact their plans could have. The meeting, held at the Royal Astronomical Society, was described as ‘positive’. The absence of an agreed framework on the satellite industry is making things a bit more problematic. There are so many defunct spacecrafts in the space and it has been advised to pull them within 25 years to avoid collisions.

NASA’s Curiosity Rover Faces Unexpected Flaw on Mars

January 28, 2020 by Samuel Roan

A software hiccup has frozen NASA’s Curiosity rover in the Martian land. Before a few months in August, the rover celebrated its seventh Anniversary there. Besides this, it has made various notable discoveries over there. The news arrived this week through a mission update. In the statement, the team functioning the rover noted the rover had lost its direction during its last set of operations. Dawn Sumner, the Curiosity team member, said something went wrong with Curiosity’s data regarding altitude; thus, it could not make the required safety assessment. He added the rover records its body attitude in memory. Apart from this, it even stores the direction of each joint, which instrument at the end of its arm is pointing downward, and its distance from the ground.

Besides this, Curiosity records particulars of the local site, as well as the location of its robotic arm. The entire set of information assists rover in determining its precise location on Mars and how to move around safely. Sumner noted the rover has become immobile, and it would freeze on-site until the recovery of its knowledge of orientation. Curiosity has remained in contact with the team on Earth. Sumner said the engineers had developed a scheme to notify Curiosity regarding its attitude. Apart from this, through the effort, they aim to confirm what happened precisely.

Currently, the billion-dollar rover has some years before its nuclear power system lowers enough to end operations considerably. Thus, NASA anticipates the probe can offer some more hints regarding the planet before the launch of its Mars 2020 mission. The current year is going to be a crucial one regarding Mars exploration. Above all, NASA is preparing to launch the Mars 2020 rover on July 17. The rove will then join the currently-ill rover on the Red Planet. According to NASA, the Mars 2020 rover would touch Martian land in February 2021. There it would discover strangely high methane levels on Mars. Well, in 2019, Curiosity rover has also made a groundbreaking discovery. It has detected oxygen that performs in a way that long way researchers cannot describe.

Study Finds Global Climate Change Declining Rivers Freezing Worldwide

January 7, 2020 by Samuel Roan

A new study has revealed that global climate change will have long-term effects on the freezing of rivers worldwide. It said annual river ice cover will decline in many parts of the world gradually. This will be due to the gradual heating of the Earth’s surface. The new study was conducted by the University of North Carolina. Researchers noted the annual river ice cover will be reduced by at least six days for every one degree Celsius increase in the temperature. The findings were published in the journal Nature. It said the decline in river ice cover will have both environmental and economic consequences.

As a part of cycles of nature, more than half of rivers present on Earth freeze over every year. This process is vital in balancing the natural cycles in the Earth’s climate. Also, it supports important transportation for industries and communities situated at high latitudes. Besides, it is helpful in regulating the amount of greenhouse gasses released from rivers into Earth’s atmosphere. Researchers said they studied more than 400,000 satellite images taken over a period of three decades. They measured which rivers freeze seasonally across the world. They observed about 56 percent of all large rivers freeze every year. Researchers said they observed a widespread decline in the process. The decline in river ice coverage was not limited to a particular region. Rivers worldwide experienced declines in monthly ice coverage.

The study said the greatest declines were spotted in the Tibetan Plateau, Alaska, and eastern Europe. Researchers said the noticed a change in the pattern of rivers freezing. They compared images clicked between 2008 and 2018 with those taken between 1984 and 1994. Researchers said they found a monthly global decline of 0.3 to 4.3 percent. For the future, the team said the Northern Hemisphere could see a 9 to 15 percent decline in summer and 12 to 68 percent in spring. They said the declining pattern in the freezing of rivers be attributed to global warming and pressed for immediate measures to check this.

WhatsApp Fixes Vulnerability That Crashed Group Chats, Deleted Chat History

December 31, 2019 by Samuel Roan

Instant messaging app WhatsApp is again hit by a serious vulnerability. This time, the bug affects group chats. It caused the app to crash for all members of the targeted group as soon as users open a malicious message. Also, it deleted the entire group chat history forever. Since there was no alternative available, users were forced to uninstall and reinstall the app to remain online. The vulnerability allowed attackers to send malicious messages to a group via WhatsApp Web. Attackers managed to edit certain message parameters using the debugging tool. After editing the text, they dropped malicious messages in the group. This ultimately reached to every member of the group and crashed the app.

Besides group crashing, users also experienced deletion of the entire group chat history. The bad characters even deleted valuable information from the device. Attackers were probably also able to gain access to the device using this weapon. When WhatsApp learned about the issue, it promised an effective measure. The Facebook owned company released a fix to resolve the problem in the new version number 2.19.58. It advised users worldwide to update the app to avoid the potential attack. The company in a statement said it greatly values the privacy of its users and it is committed to maintaining strong security.

WhatsApp has taken several steps in the last few months to strengthen security and check further breach. It recently launched a new tool to prevent people from being added to unwanted groups. WhatsApp is one of the popular chatting chat apps in the world. It has nearly 1.5 billion active users and more than a billion groups worldwide. This makes it the most popular instant messaging app and the huge user base perhaps makes it a favorite destination for hacking. According to an estimate, close to 65 billion messages are sent on WhatsApp daily globally. The Mark Zuckerberg owned Facebook had acquired WhatsApp in February 2014 for USD 16 billion.

China has a weaponized smartphone, that may be a significant concern.

December 16, 2019 by Samuel Roan

Developers claim that file sharing has never been so more straightforward, behind the viral mobile app Zapya. One can share files from one device to another device for free, and Zapya permits one to transfer massive data seamlessly across multiple platforms. Dewmobile, the Shanghai-based developers of the app, claims 450 million downloads from its 2012 launch. Somewhat weirdly, though, it now arrives that the authorities in Xinjiang have been targeting Zapya users amid the minority Uighur population. If the app is found on a device, it is a cause enough for an investigation, and it depends on what files have been shared, the research could lead to the internet. The Zapya manifestations can be found amid a leaked cache of documents that put off the surveillance ecosystem spread in Xinjiang.

The China Cables, published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, detail the growth of a no holds caulked surveillance laboratory, where patterns of life can be advised, and the population can be regulated. Missteps run the risk of the internet, and the internet can only be fled by modified behavior and thinking. It is not just Zapya, of course, and its developers had not reported to a request for comment at the time of publishing. Accusations that the authorities actively exhort communications on Tencent’s WeChat have long been made, and the Western apps like Whatsapp are an immediate red flag. ICIJ stated that Uighurs inside and outside China now live with the information that the authorities continuously control their communications.

The Chinese authorities continue the fiction that what is taking place in Xinjiang is simply an intense counter-terrorism program that has local public support, and it has made a region safe. According to the official response, there were no so-called detention camps in Xinjiang. This weaponization is expansive than Xinjiang and Hong Kong. It is a switch that has been battered. In a world where we all carry pocket-sized devices to store all our data, for tracking movements and interactions, China has shown that it only takes a state intending to form the dystopian reality that is now unfolding in Xinjiang.

Recent survey revealed a reduction in sizes of North American birds

December 6, 2019 by Samuel Roan

Dave Willard, Field Museum scientist, took body size measurements of 70,716 migratory birds specimens. There are more than a thousand birds that die after crashing into building windows during their migrations in Chicago. A study found that though the wingspans of birds were increasing, their body sizes on an average were getting smaller gradually over the period. Wingpans increased possibly to enable longer duration travel of birds compared to their smaller body size. According to the researchers, climate warming is the root cause of a gradual reduction in the sizes of birds in North America.

Bergmann’s rule says that individuals within the same species become larger in colder regions and smaller in warmer regions. This phenomenon may be the reason for a gradual reduction in body sizes in warmer climatic conditions. The study included most of the songbirds like thrushes, warblers, sparrows with almost 52 species over the four decades. The birds breed in North America colder regions and spend winters in south Chicago. Body size reduced in all the 52 species with a reduction in bone length by 2.4% and body mass by 2.6%. These results suggest that change in climatic condition seems to change both the shape and body size of these species.

Dave Willard, who is collection manager emeritus at the Field Museum in Chicago, said that everyone agrees to change in climatic conditions, and this reduction in body sizes is just a supporting example of how the natural world is getting affected. This study proves to be an alarming situation for North American birds. US and Canada had lost about 2.9 billion birds. And there has been a 29% reduction in the avian population since 1970, according to the study published in September 2019. This study is a takeaway that the changing world of humans had led to environmental change at an unexpected scale and rate, and now this is likely to widen.
