Former President George W. Bush Had Tongue-Tied Second At A Speech

May 20, 2022 by Spencer Edward

When condemning Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Bush mistakenly mentioned the choice to launch an “unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq” earlier than speedy correcting himself to say “Ukraine,” which became a bungled criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The result is a lack of exams and balances in Russia and the selection of 1 person to launch a completely unjustified invasion of Iraq,” said Bush, earlier than catching himself and shaking his own head. “I suggest — of Ukraine.” Realizing his mistake, However, Bush then appeared to mention beneath his breath, “Iraq, too.” Bush commented in a speech at his presidential middle at Southern Methodist college in Dallas on Wednesday all through an occasion examining the time ahead of Yankee elections. Then after a pause, Bush blamed the error on their own age, and the viewers laughed. “Anyway, I am 75 now,” he said. Former representative Joe Walsh, who managed for the Republican nomination for president in 2020, tweeted because the clip swirled through social media platforms: “All gaffes aside, George W Bush became incorrect to invade Iraq. And Putin becomes incorrect to invade Ukraine.

“Any other person cracked a joke “Freud certainly stepped out of his own grave too, for my part slap the ‘Iraq’ out of Bush’s mouth, didn’t he.” This mixup changed into widely visible. Because a film of Bush’s speech became clipped and tweeted through Dallas media reporter Michael Williams on Wednesday, it has been considered more significant than 17 million times. In Bush’s Wednesday remarks, he additionally defined Ukrainian President, Mr. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as a “cool little guy,” judged him “the Churchill of the 21st century.” As president, Bush supervised the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 — as a part of the post-Sep 11 conflicts in the center East — beneath the pretext that us of a become hiding guns of destruction or WMDs. Iraq’s dictator, Mr. Saddam Hussein, became deposed, but no guns had been located, and the war officially lasted for nearly a year.

Hundreds of U.S. Service individuals and tens of lots of civilians died. While Mr. Bush’s management argued that preventing became vital for countrywide safety even without the WMDs, it became increasingly unpopular at domestic. In his put up-White house memoir, Bush wrote that he had a “sickening feeling” when he found out there had been no WMDs in Iraq after their meant existence turned into used as justification for the invasion. He informed ABC information’ “international news this night” while leaving office in 2008 that the “biggest remorse” of his presidency became what he referred to as the “intelligence failure in Iraq.”

Need of Anonymity for Online Information

May 19, 2022 by Spencer Edward

Nowadays Online Information, there is a very line that segregates a person’s digital and physical identities and can be broken with ease. Social media have now evolved and now they contain all information such as an individual’s friends, family, etc. When applying for a job, with your educational qualification and work experience, the recruiter also checks your social media before hiring that particular person. For instance, a misapprehended tweet or comments from past years or an improper photo can destroy job opportunities or also end a career.

There is a thought that once something is posted or uploaded online, it is permanent and almost impossible to comprehend. Simply said, don’t post anything online that can damage an individual himself and his opportunities. Monitoring the passive data collected by companies is as important as checking the online information of the person.

To take control of online data and privacy, some tips are mentioned below:

In Europe, the citizens can request Google to remove information posted on its site.

Steps: The citizen has to fill out the “Right to be Forgotten” form. In the form, specific URLs that want to be delisted, search queries associated with these URLs, and lastly explain why that particular query needs to be deleted. After the form is filled, google employees review cases daily. Google may deny some requests for the removal of links.

“Have I Been Pwned” is a service run by Troy Hunt, a cybersecurity expert which can be used to find any account information that has been compromised or is involved in a data breach?

“Google Accounts Page” which provides various options to boost privacy, reduction in data collection, etc. such as

  • Privacy Checkup
  • Security Checkup
  • Delete Me

To delete accounts or lock down social media accounts

Facebook, in the settings tab, there are various options that can help to change who can watch, like comment on your post, etc.
To delete Facebook account: Settings & Privacy>Settings>Your Facebook Information>Deactivation & Deletion to deactivate it.
On Instagram, to boost privacy Clicking Settings, Account Privacy, and switch to ‘Private account’
To deactivate your Instagram account, log in and go to the request deletion page.

Sales of NFTs have dropped to an average of 19,000 daily this week, a 92% drop from a high of nearly 225,000 in September, reports The Wall Street Journal, citing details.

According to the report, the number of active funds in the NFT market has dropped by 88% to nearly 14,000 in the past weeks from a peak of 119,000 in November.

The impressive enthusiasm of the NFT led to a dramatic growth of the niche sector in 2021.

According to Nonfungible “We see a lot of a kind of stability, in line with the last quarter of 2021. Conversely, sales volume has dropped by about 50%, with a very significant decrease in the volume of buyers and sellers,”
Many NFT owners now get their investments much smaller than when they bought those pieces of art.

Crypto businesswoman Sina Estavi paid the US $2.9 Mn for NFT to CEO Twitter D Jacky’s first tweet.

Last month, he had planned to sell it and to his great surprise, he received a high bid of only US $6,800.

Estavi has indicated that NFT will be resold in the NFT OpenSea market area, asking for the US $48 Mn.

The NFT market presently represents segments such as sports and arts entertainment.

The worldwide NFT market is dominated by players like Gala Games, Binance, Yuga Labs, Dapper Labs, Onchain Labs, OpenSea, Yellowheart, Theta Labs, and Foundation Labs, among others.

Nest cameras for Amazon Alexa collaboration includes since the new versions of Google.

May 17, 2022 by Spencer Edward

The newest Google Nest cameras might now stream to individuals Amazon Alexa smart displays, as well as Fire TVs, Echo Show devices, and Fire tablets, which is prodigious news for smart homes divided. It has modernized its Alexa ability to incorporate its newest cameras, after Amazon’s declaration earlier week that third-party cameras may use its new package and person proclamation capabilities on Echo smart speakers.

The Google Nest Alexa skill proposals the aptitude to monitor a live stream from the Google Nest Cam (indoor/outdoor, battery), Google Nest Cam (indoor, wired), Nest Cam with floodlight on Echo speakers, also motion announcements. Google’s Nest Doorbell integration now includes doorbell press notifications and two-way communication (battery).

This is in addition to the existing capability for live views from older Nest Cams, the Nest Doorbell (wired), and Nest Cam IQs (outdoor/indoor) which were previously known as Nest Hello. According to Amazon, the new human detection announcement capability will come to the new cameras at some point, but package detection announcements are not currently planned.

Users can now stream all of their own Echo Show to a Nest camera and view a live feed of the newer models on a Fire tablet or Fire TV. Users can also get motion notifications on their own smart displays, and Echo speakers and use an Echo Show to see and chat with guests at the Nest Doorbell.

Operators can get doorbell push notifications and two-way conversation on the Nest Doorbell, allowing them to use an Echo Show as an intercom for their doorbell. Of course, if operators have a Google Nest display or a Ring Doorbell with an Echo Show device, operators have been able to do this for a time. If the doorbell is pressed, both of these systems can instantly bring up the footage on the operator’s smart display. For the cross-platform integration, this does not appear to be the case.

“Alexa, show the [camera name] stream” and “Alexa, answer the front door” are two of the new skill’s voice commands. The talent also includes prior Google Nest skills that allowed users to operate their Nest Thermostats (all models) and older Nest cameras. The skill will only work if the user has switched the user’s Nest account to a Google Account if the user has older Nest devices.

All of this smart home harmony is encouraging, and it’s likely a forerunner to the upcoming smart home standard matter, which has the potential to bring all of our devices together so that users can control anything with any voice assistant or app user want. While cameras were not included in the first revision of the Matter specification, it’s encouraging to see that everyone is still getting along.

Canadian Manufacturers Face a New Buy American Policy on Construction Materials

May 10, 2022 by Spencer Edward

Once again, the Canadian Manufacturers face a risk of being hit by U.S. Protectionism and need to fight for necessary exemptions. Challenges were raised after the Biden Administration announced new procurement guidance Monday that requires the construction material purchased for federally-funded infrastructure projects to be produced in the U.S. The Head of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, Dennis Darby, says Canada will have to work hard to secure carve-outs and waivers to protect access to the U.S. market, as it has done in the previous challenges. U.S. President Joe Biden lifted the veil Wednesday on a broad and ambitious $2 trillion in infrastructure spending. However, Canadian businesses, contractors, and suppliers were left still wondering if they would be able to share in the benefaction.

Stakeholders, well familiar with Biden’s campaign-trail promises to impose more rigid “Buy American” rules for government contracts, are still waiting to learn how stringently those restrictions will be enforced. Key to those efforts will be emphasizing the integrated nature of the economies, where materials already flow freely across the border, and how Canada is rarely in a position to undercut U.S. prices. Darby says the U.S. provisions are more targeted toward countries like China, where there are concerns about subsidized production and the exporting of products at low prices.

The Buy American rules, part of the US$1-trillion infrastructure package passed into law last November, allow for several scenarios in which the requirements could be waived, including if they’re inconsistent with public interest or if the materials aren’t produced in sufficient quantities or quality domestically. “There will be additional opportunities for good jobs in the manufacturing sector,” said Celeste Drake, director of Made in America at the White House Office of Management and Budget. “And as we’re looking at boosting American content, big corporations are going to create opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises in the U.S. as supply chains are partially re-shored to try to meet the content standards.”
Biden faces inflation at a 40-year high. He is betting that domestic production will ultimately reduce price pressures, a response to Republican attacks that his $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package initially triggered higher prices.

“From Day One, every action I’ve taken to rebuild our economy has been guided by one principle: Made in America,” Biden said on Apr. 14 in Greensboro, North Carolina. “It takes a federal government that doesn’t just give lip service to buying American but takes action.”
Biden said that the roughly $700 billion the government devotes annually to procuring goods is supposed to prioritize U.S. suppliers. Still, regulations going back to the 1930s have been watered down in ways that masked imports use. The new guidelines would let government officials know how many dollars go to U.S. workers and factories. American manufacturers are about 170,000 jobs short of the 12.8 million factory jobs held in 2019, as manufacturing jobs declined before the pandemic began. But the U.S. has 6.9 million fewer manufacturing jobs than at the 1979 peak, a loss caused by outsourcing and automation.

Elon Musk confronts Rich Man Bill Gates about shorting Tesla stock

April 26, 2022 by Spencer Edward

A Twitter story by Elon Musk does not involve him possibly owning this website.

To confirm rumors that he turned down a job with Bill Gates, the Tesla CEO took to Twitter (home to many poor tweets). An account called Whole Mars Catalog published several screenshots that allegedly showed a text exchange between Musk and Gates.

Tesla’s recent stock slump has been a cause of concern for many investors. Some have suggested that Bill Gates may have had a role in it. Gates is the founder of Microsoft and is now a major investor in Tesla. He allegedly sold off a large amount of Tesla stock right before the price drop. Tesla has denied any involvement by Gates and insists that the stock slump was due to other factors.

Musk asks Gates about his $500 million short positions in Tesla stock. Investor-speak means that Gates would be financially benefited if Tesla’s price falls. This is in contrast to traditional investing methods such as investing money in a stock and hoping it succeeds. Gates confirms that he does. Musk quickly shuts down the conversation to discuss the possibility of them doing philanthropic work together.

In an email to Bill Gates, Elon Musk outlined his thoughts on how to make humanity a multi-planetary species. He believes that the key is to create a self-sustaining civilization on Mars that can eventually support itself. This would require large amounts of money and innovation, but Musk is confident that it can be done. He also urged Gates to get involved in the project, as he has the resources and knowledge to make it happen.

Musk made it clear in his original post that the authenticity of the texts had not been confirmed. However, he did what Musk does and hopped in. It was true, but he didn’t leak it. (Mashable hasn’t confirmed the authenticity).

What does all this mean for me and you? It doesn’t really mean much. Musk is just being messy about an alleged conversation between him and another man who is insanely wealthy. This is probably what wealthy people debate about. It might be smart to think about the possibility that these texts may not be real, given Musk’s knowledge. You never know.

If the screenshots are true, then the biggest conclusion is Bill…green text? Really? You’re a man, come on.

Google Pay Will Soon Allow Cryptocurrencies to Be Added to Its Platform

January 31, 2022 by Spencer Edward

It is no surprise that cryptocurrency has captured the attention of investors. Bitcoin (BTC) was the first mainstream investment to achieve high returns in the past decade.

Many other digital currencies have followed its lead, many with similarly high returns. While the Ethereum network’s Ether token (ETH) was initially launched in 2015 for less than $3, it reached a record $4,891 in November 2021. At the time of writing, both ETH and BTC were trading at over $43,000 and $3300, respectively. This is significantly lower than their peak but far more than they were a few years ago.

After a series of events, Alphabet Inc.’s Google hired Arnold Goldberg, an ex-PalmPay executive, to head its value operations, create a department for blockchain applied sciences, and plan and implement the Google Pay cryptocurrency transformation. Google may be considering adding cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum to the Google Pay platform.

The whispers are now louder after the Invoice. The head of Google’s commerce explained that the move was part of a larger strategy to work with a wider variety of economic suppliers, including cryptocurrency.

This decision could be Google’s new direction after it abandoned the Google Plex project in October 2021, according to Bloomberg.

Google Plex was to be a digital check-in and monetary savings platform. After more than a decade of work, Google decided to end the project. It also had 11 financial partners.

Recent events suggest that the company has chosen to go cryptocurrency instead. Google Pay’s cryptocurrency conversion could play an important role in the company’s future plans. Clients from outside India were previously able to trade or acquire cryptocurrency using apps such as Coinbase and PayPal.

This change will allow for cryptocurrency support on Android smartphones. It will make it easier to manage your crypto money and provide stability to the infrastructure. This change could end several recent crypto frauds.

Although it is not clear if Google Pay will allow cryptocurrency on its platform, or if a companion app will be developed to do so. However, it is evident that the company is interested in blockchain and crypto.

Things look bright for an exciting future with the rumored entry of the IT giant into the Bitcoin and Ethereum markets.

Google is ending its legacy-free G Suite plan on July 1

January 20, 2022 by Spencer Edward

Google’s productivity suite has been called many things over the years. Google Apps was originally called Google Workspace. G Suite is now Google Apps. The company has also offered many options to access the software over that time, including new subscription plans and discontinuing older ones. It plans to retire a tier that survived the suite’s recent rebranding.

9to5Google found an email from the company in which it informed Workspace administrators that G Suite legacy free edition will no longer be available after July 1, 2022. These users will be transitioned to paid accounts by the company on May 1. Google claims it will automatically choose a subscription plan for users who have not chosen one by May 1. It will also consider their current usage in making that decision. Anyone or any organization that moves to a paid subscription plan will not be charged for at least two months. The company states that it will suspend accounts of individuals or organizations who don’t provide billing information by July 1.

Monthly fees for enterprise and business Workspace accounts start from $6 per user. The company will offer deep discounts to anyone affected by this decision. The move won’t affect Gmail, Docs, and Sheets users who have a Google account. Google will offer its free Workspace plans to schools and nonprofits that are eligible for the Fundamentals tier. This isn’t changing, and organizations with legacy G Suite Basic, Business, Educational, or Nonprofit subscriptions don’t have to worry about a surprise bill.

Nissan Unveils Radical Concepts, What is it Planning for the Future?

December 18, 2021 by Spencer Edward

Nissan’s “Chill-Out” model is the main attraction, as known from earlier released teaser photographs, which it promised will be its new electric SUV that will be constructed in Sunderland in the foreseeable future. Although not verified, the ‘Chill-Out’ is likely to closely resemble the style of this future production version, which has previously been stated to prioritize “making the transition to electric motoring even more approachable.” The concept, like the final production car, might be a successor to the Nissan Leaf, is built on the same CMF-EV construction model just like the upcoming Ariya SUV, and employs the same e-4ORCE, twin-motor four-wheel-drive system. It is regarded as “a fresh way of thinking about mobility.”

Technical specifics are scarce, but its sleek, minimalistic cockpit, which notably lacks a typical steering wheel or pedals, suggests its autonomous capability. Nissan committed to accelerating the roll-out of self-driving technologies at its ‘Nissan Ambition 2030 address, where it plans to deploy ProPilot assist systems on 2.5 million cars by 2026 as well as LIDAR sensors on almost all vehicles by 2030. However, the other 3 designs are a bit more futuristic, previewing how “breakthroughs in energy storage, electronics, and packaging might provide clients a broad array of mobility solutions to meet their demands and lifestyles.” Notably, it is envisioned to have a solid-state battery as part of a versatile skateboard chassis. Nissan has not yet identified or confirmed the structure’s manufacturing potential, although it does have 2 motors, an “extremely low” center of gravity, optimum mass distribution, and an e-4ORCE four-wheel drive.

Nissan has exhibited a trio of cars at varying locations and sizes to demonstrate their adaptability. The ‘Max-Out’ is a beautiful drop-top sports vehicle that seeks to “provide a fresh driving experience with its superior stability and comfort.” Nissan promises precise handling and minimal body movement, as well as the ability to fold the passenger compartment flat into the flooring when not in use to optimize internal space. Though it is still a forward-thinking architectural concept, this idea is the first indication that Nissan is thinking about the future of conventional supercars as it transitions to being a manufacturer of solely EVs. The pure-combustion Z has only recently been introduced in the United States, however, the GT-R flagship has been on the market for several years, and Nissan has yet to formally reveal any replacement.

NASA Delays 2-Astraunaut Spacewalk On the ISS After Debris Notice

December 17, 2021 by Spencer Edward

On Tuesday, Nasa has temporarily delayed a scheduled space mission for 2 astronauts, outside the International Space Station, fearing a “debris notice” that was issued to the orbiting research laboratory. Astronauts Thomas Marshburn, as well as Kayla, were scheduled to leave the space station to repair a failing antenna, despite what Nasa officials described as a slightly higher danger posed by junk from a Russian anti-satellite missile launch weeks earlier. However, approx. 5 hours before the spacewalk was scheduled to begin, Nasa announced on Twitter that the spacewalk had been postponed for the time being. NASA received a notification that the space station had been hit by debris.  Teams have chosen to postpone the Nov. 30 spacewalk, until additional information is available due to not being able to adequately analyze this danger as it may cause harm to the astronauts.

It was unclear how near the debris came to the space station, which is approximately orbiting 250 miles (402 kilometers) above the Earth, and whether it was connected to the Russian missile launch. Nasa TV had intended to broadcast live footage of the 6-hour spacewalk, which was set to begin at 7.10 Am., ET (12.10 GMT). Their mission was to repair a malfunctioning S-band radio communications antenna component that had been in place for more than 20 years, as well as replace it with a new one stored outside of the space station. The faulty antenna recently lost its ability to transmit messages to Earth. Even though other antennas on the space station can serve the same role, mission managers chose to install a replacement.

Marshburn was supposed to collaborate with Barron while placed at the end of a robotic arm, controlled from within the station by European Space Agency astronaut Matthias Maurer, with assistance from American Crewmate Raja Chari. The 4 reached the space station on November 11 in a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where they joined 2 Russian cosmonauts as well as a Nasa astronaut, who are now all currently on board. As per Nasa, 4 days later, a Russian anti-satellite missile test performed without notice caused a debris field in the Low-Earth Orbit, with all 7 members of the crew seeking refuge in their docked spacecraft to enable for a speedy escape, until the immediate threat had passed.

As per Dana Weigel, Nasa’s deputy manager for the International Space Station, the cloud of debris has subsequently dissipated. However, Weigel told reporters on Monday that residual shards posed a “slightly enhanced” background danger to the space station overall, as well as a 7% higher chance of spacewalker suits being perforated, compared to previous missile launch by Russia. She stated that Nasa has yet to completely calculate the increased risks presented by the more than 1,700 bigger debris shards it is monitoring all around the orbit of the station, however the 7% increase in danger to spacewalkers was “well within” variations previously found in “its natural surroundings.”

Apple To End Work From Home, Asks Employees to Rejoin Work In-Person From February 1 Next Year

November 30, 2021 by Spencer Edward

Apple has announced to end work from home. The company is asking its employees to be ready to return to offices. It said that employees worldwide will soon resume work at the office. It has set February 1 as the tentative date for employees to return to offices. The tech giant, however, said that it will adopt a hybrid working model. The company has already sent an internal memo to employees. The company said offices will resume from February 1 with a hybrid work pilot. Under this policy, Apple could allow employees to work remotely for one or two days every week. The memo said that some may have to come to the office for four to five days depending on the role.

According to the memo, employees will have to come to the office on the first three days of the week. On the last two working days of the week, employees can work remotely. Employees who require spending more time in the office according to their project will have to come to the office more than three days. Besides, the iPhone maker has also planned to let employees work remotely for up to four weeks every year. The company had earlier said that it will let employees work remotely for two weeks every year. But now the company has extended it to four weeks. It added that two extra weeks to work remotely will give employees more opportunities to travel.

Apple had planned to reopen the office earlier. But it delayed the decision at least till January next year after the rise in Covid-19 cases in parts of the United States. The surge in cases was mainly due to the widespread of the Delta variant. The government has managed to bring the situation under control by ramping up the vaccination drive. Apple had in August said that it will serve a month’s notice to its employees before asking them to return to offices. The company had earlier announced to reopen the office for three days every year from September. But then it delayed the decision till October. Later, the Cupertino headquartered company postponed the plan too early 2022.

India’s Moon Orbiter Chandrayaan-2 Performs Maneuver To Avoid Collision With NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter

November 23, 2021 by Spencer Edward

The Chandrayaan-2 recently had a close shave. The lunar orbiter avoided a possible collision with NASA’s counterpart. Chandrayaan-2 is India’s second lunar exploration mission. India’s space agency said that the orbiter avoided the collision with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. This was for the first time in the history of Moon exploration when two orbiters came so close. The agency said that an evasive measure was carried out. This helped in avoiding the collision. The two were predicted to come very close near the North pole in lunar orbit on October 20. As per the calculations, the closest approach distance between the two spacecraft would have been around three km.

The space agencies of both countries decided to move away from the Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter well before the two spacecraft came close to each other. Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter was moved away on October 18. This ensured large radial separation between the two spacecraft at the closest conjunction in the lunar orbit. The agency said after the maneuver there will be no close conjunctions further between the two spacecraft. Chandrayaan-2 and Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter orbit the Moon in a nearly polar orbit. Therefore, the two come close to each other near the Lunar poles. While Chandrayaan-2 is circling the Moon since 2019, NASA’s orbit has been going around the moon since 2009.

Such maneuvers for satellites in Earth orbit are common. This is important to avoid collisions between operational satellites and space debris. Such maneuvers have been becoming frequent. Satellites face threats from space junks that block the routes of satellites. Space debris in recent times has increased at an alarming rate and could be riskier for operational spacecraft. Recently, the International Space Station faced the risk of being hit by space junks created by Russia’s satellite breakup. Back in 2020, earth observation satellites of India and Russia had a near miss. They had come as close as 224 meters in outer space. Space agencies regularly monitor for close approaches. This was the first time when India’s space agency experienced such close conjunction and performed a collision-avoidance maneuver.

Facebook Joins Hands With CDC, WHO To Check On Vaccine Misinformation Targeted At Children

November 4, 2021 by Spencer Edward

Ever since the outbreak of the coronavirus vaccine, there has been misinformation related to the highly infectious disease. The misinformation became widespread as soon as the rollout of vaccines started. Facebook has been taking several steps to curb misinformation on the social media platform. With the Food and Drug Administration officially giving a green signal for Covid-19 vaccines for kids between the ages of five and 11, Facebook has announced that it will roll out stricter policies to curb the spread of misinformation related to vaccines for children. The social media giant has taken several steps to put restrictions on Covid-19 related misinformation. But it had no policy that was specifically related to kids. Meta, the brand new identity of Facebook, in a blog post said that it decided to partner with the World Health Organisation and Centers for Disease Control and Preventions to tackle any misinformation related to the Covid-19 vaccine of children. The company will take strict measures to stop the spreading of misinformation on its platform. There move comes as there were several posts that claimed that there are other Covid-19 treatments available for kids. Facebook has made it clear that all such posts will be removed instantly.

Meta said that it will keep an eye on misinformation being shared on the platform. It will include everything related to Covid-19. From claims about it, efficacy to misinformation like vaccines can seriously harm or even kill children. This will include posts that claim that Covid-19 vaccines are unsafe, untested, or ineffective for children. Additionally, it will provide in-feed reminders about locations where citizens can find vaccines for children. These feeds will be available in English and Spanish languages. According to Facebook, it has removed more than 20 million feeds containing misinformation related to Covid-19 and vaccine misinformation from both Instagram as well as Facebook since the beginning of the pandemic. The company also said that it has taken down around 3,000 pages, accounts, and groups from its platform. However, these claims are totally opposite of what was clear from the leaked internal documents from Facebook. The leaked documents, also known as Facebook Papers, showed that how unprepared the social media giant was when it comes to tackling misinformation related to coronavirus and vaccines. Had it been prepared to fight misinformation related to the pandemic, it might have rolled out campaigns much earlier. This could have helped Meta in filtering more misinformation related to Covid-19 and vaccines for both adults and children.

Meta’s head of health, Kang-Xing Jin said that the partnership with WHO and CDC is part of an ongoing effort. “We have partnered with health authorities as part of an ongoing effort. So it is not about a single update on Facebook. The company will continue to update and clarify its policies. We all also keep on adding new claims related to coronavirus vaccine for children that will be removed from our platforms,” Jin said. Meta has time and again faced the heat for not being able to control the spread of misinformation on its platforms. The problem became more obvious with the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Under pressure, Facebook decided to implement a wide range of strict policies to reduce the number of such content. However, there are several who believe that the response by Facebook is too little too late. This is because the hashtag #VaccinesKill was functional as recently as July. It was only in July when Facebook blocked it. US President Joe Biden has accused the company of ‘killing people’ by not being able to check false vaccine claims on its platform. It is pertinent to mention that FDA has given authorization to the mRNA vaccine of Pfizer-BioNTech. The vaccine has been proved to be 90.7 percent effective in controlling coronavirus in children of age group five to 11 years. The child version of the vaccine comes in smaller doses when compared to that with adults. It will be offered as a two-dose shot with the second being administered at a gap of three weeks. No side effects or adverse events were reported during the trials.

Barclays CEO Jes Staley Steps Down As British Regulators Investigates His Relationship With Jeffrey Epstein

November 3, 2021 by Spencer Edward

The American chief executive officer of Barclays, Jes Staley, has stepped down with immediate effect as British regulators are investigating his relationship with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The bank said that C S Venkatakrishnan, who is commonly known as Venkat, will take over as CEO. Venkat was promoted last year to run the markets division of the bank. Earlier, he was chief risk officer at Barclays. However, the appointment is subject to regulatory approval. The bank and the outgoing CEO were made aware of the ‘preliminary conclusions’ of a probe by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) or the United Kingdom and the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) recently. These preliminary findings are the result of two years of investigation into the matter. The investigation was launched in 2020. The bank also said that investigation was into how Staley had characterized his relationship with late Mr Jeffrey Epstein to the employees of Barclays. The regulators are also investigating how Barclays described that relationship in response to the FCA. However, the bank emphasized that there are no findings in the two-year-long investigation that Staley was aware of any of the alleged crimes of Mr Epstein. This was the main question that cemented Barclay’s stand to support its group chief executive when he was arrested in the summer of 2019.

“Keeping in mind those conclusions and Staley’s intention to contest them, the Board and Staley have reached an agreement that he will be stepping down from his role as Group Chief Executive as well director of Barclays with immediate effect,” the bank said. The development had its impact on the market as the shares of Barclays were trading 1.2 per cent lower after the announcement was made. Wealthy financier and convicted pedophile Epstein was arrested in July 2019. He was charged with sex trafficking by the United States federal prosecutors. However, he hanged himself a month later in a New York jail cell while awaiting trial. Barclays has maintained that the regulatory process still has to run its full course and therefore it will not be appropriate for the bank to make comments on the preliminary conclusions of the investigation. It is worth mentioning that Staley took over as CEO of the bank in October 2015. And Staley has previously said that his relationship with the convicted multimillionaire ended in late 2015. Staley has also said that ‘he regrets his relationship with Epstein.’ Before joining Barclays, Staley worked for more than three decades at JPMorgan. He served as head of JPMorgan’s investment banking division. He came in touch with Epstein in early 2000. At that time he was made head of JPMorgan’s private bank.

“He was already a client of the bank. I just tried to maintain the relationship during my time at JP Morgan. But that ended as soon as left JPMorgan,” Staley had said in February 2020. Staley has told the Barclays board that both were not in contact ever since he became CEO of the bank in December 2015. When asked to comment on the preliminary conclusions, a spokesperson for the FCA and PRA said that ‘regulators are not known for making comments on ongoing investigations or regulatory proceedings.’ There are reports that Staley has told the bank staff in an internal memo that he did not want them to be distracted from his ‘personal response’ to the investigations. “I will not be with all you of you for the next chapter of the banks’ story, but you all must know that I will be cheering your success from the sidelines,” Staley said. This is not the first time when the Wall Street veteran has run into trouble with the UK regulators. He was fined USD 870,000 by the FCA after it emerged that he had tried to identify a whistleblower at Barclays. He had tried to find out the person who had written an anonymous letter that raised concerns about the bank’s senior employee. He had apologized for that and admitted that ‘it was a mistake.’ The bank had clawed back around USD 680,000 from his 2016 pay over the incident.

A Survey Shows 72 Percent Of Unvaccinated Employees Wish To Quit Their Jobs Over COVID19 Vaccine Mandate

November 1, 2021 by Spencer Edward

The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) has done a survey of unimmunized workers that have shown that employees who have not taken COVID19 shots yet have said that they wish to quit their jobs if they will be forced to take the vaccines. The survey that is considered a think tank on health issues has found that nearly 72 percent of unvaccinated participants have said that they will quit their jobs if their employers follow the federal rule to mandate COVID19 shots and do not offer a testing option. About 37 percent of unimmunized workers have said that they will quit their jobs if their employers mandate COVID19 vaccination or force them to undergo weekly COVID19 testing. The US government has drafted the workplace safety ruling, which says that all businesses with 100 or more workers need to make the COVID19 vaccine mandatory or require testing their employees for COVID19 weekly. The officials from the US government have said that the rule will apply to around 80 million employees working in the United States, that is two-thirds of all working-class people across the country. Health experts who have carried out the survey have said that if the surveyed unimmunized workers pursue their threats to quit their jobs, it will result in nearly 5 percent to 9 percent of working-class people leaving their jobs in the US; but it depends on what rule they run into at their workplace. Nevertheless, experts have said that the findings of the survey have come with a huge caution that many uninoculated workers who have threatened to quit might not leave their jobs. The vice president and head of public opinion and survey research at the Kaiser Family Foundation, Dr. Liz Hamel has said that what people reply in surveys and how they will react to the loss of jobs are two different things.

Health officials have reported that many major employers such as United Airlines and Tyson Foods that have made COVID19 vaccination compulsory at their organizations have seen that almost all their workers have complied with the mandate. The new survey has found that nearly 24 percent of people enrolled in the survey have said that they know someone who has quit their job due to the vaccine mandate. Around 5 percent of unimmunized adults have said that they have actually left their jobs due to their employers’ vaccine mandate. Experts have said that people who have said that they have left their work signify only 1 percent of all adults in the United States. The survey has enrolled more than 1500 adults from the US. They have used telephonic interviews for the survey. The findings of the survey appear to be troublesome for the job market in the US, said the experts. It has become hard for employers to find and retain employees. A record number of job openings have outnumbered the number of people looking for jobs. The Labor Department of the US has released data that has shown that people have been leaving their jobs at a record pace. Earlier this year, many employers have been hesitant to impose a vaccine mandate due to the fear of losing workers who do not want to take the shots or undergo testing for COVID19 frequently. Considering the scenario, many business groups such as the US Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable have extended their support to the federal rules, as there have been fewer odds of losing employees if other employers as well have followed the same rule. Recently, a number of other business groups have expressed their concerns that the vaccine mandate might add to the country’s already besieged supply chain issues if unimmunized employees start quitting their jobs.

Some analysts have said that a number of police personnel and fire departments across the US where vaccine mandate is about to be imposed might see staff shortage as huge numbers of people are yet to get the vaccine in their ranks. Dr. Liz Hamel has said that the opposition to rulings that are linked to COVID19 is not surprising. She has said that it has been hard for many people who have not been vaccinated to book an appointment for COVID19 shots earlier this year. However, nearly 72 percent of adults have at least taken the first dose of their two-dose vaccine regime. Now, with the increased availability of COVID19 shots, remaining unvaccinated adults are trying everything to dodge the vaccine thinking vaccination is not good for them. As per the latest data, employer vaccine mandate has become quite common now. The survey has found that nearly 25 percent of surveyed employees have said that their employers have imposed a vaccine mandate and need them to be vaccinated. A survey that has been released in the month of June has shown that 9 percent of workers have confessed their employers need them to be immunized against COVID19. The government officials have revealed that some employers such as government contractors and the majority of health care employees mandatorily need to be vaccinated against COVID19 without the option of being tested frequently. They have said that federal workers as well need to get the COVID19 shots in order to comply with the federal ruling. Some other employers specifically those who think it is too hard and costly for them to organize an extensive testing program as well might need to impose the vaccine mandate without providing the testing option to their workers. The CEO of United Airlines, Scott Kirby has said that it will be troublesome for airline operations and passengers to conduct regular testing. He has said that if an airline might see thousands of workers testing positive for COVID19 if it conducts regular testing and these workers might not get their test results on time to report to the office. It will lead to multiple service-related issues and flight cancellations. United Airlines has revealed that workers who have been immunized are very hesitant to work long with people who are not vaccinated yet. As per the report, around 97 percent of United Airline workers have taken the vaccine complying with the federal rule and about 3 percent of 67000 united Airlines employees in the US have applied for religious or medical exemptions. The officials from Tyson Foods have said that nearly 96 percent of its 120000 US workers have taken the vaccine complying with the vaccine mandate.

Starliner’s Orbital Test Flight 2 Delayed Till Mid-2022 Due To Faulty Valves

October 27, 2021 by Spencer Edward

The test flight of Starliner has been delayed again. NASA has said that the spacecraft will not lift off till mid-next year. It is a cargo spacecraft. American aerospace giant Boeing is the architect of the spacecraft. It is developing the spacecraft for NASA. The Starliner capsule will embark on an orbital flight test probably in the middle of 2022. The delay is because of faulty valves. Engineers are probing the valves to fix the faults. NASA and Boeing aimed to launch Starliner’s Orbital Test Flight 2 in July this year. But it was pushed to August. The uncrewed mission was touted to be a crucial mission for both NASA and Boeing to the International Space Station.

NASA said that engineers during preflight checks spotted 13 stuck valves in the service module of Starliner. This forced the company to defer the test plan. The test flight is a part of Boeing’s contract with NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Boeing will fly operational missions to ISS for NASA. Notably, the contract has suffered a series of setbacks since its signing in 2014. This prevented Starliner’s test flight to ISS. According to NASA, a test flight is necessary before putting astronauts on board. The test flights help in finding out possible difficulties that astronauts may face during missions.

Boeing had in 2019 launched the first uncrewed orbital flight. However, the mission did not go as planned. Boeing then made a fresh attempt. But the second test flight could not be launched because of software checks and other issues. The company said that engineers had no indication about any problem in the valves of the spacecraft. Boeing said that engineers are yet to determine the exact reason behind the valves that made it stuck. The company said that Starliner’s components worked perfectly during previous tests in 2019. Engineers are now mulling to bring a new service module. However, the company recently said that it will retain the existing service module and assured that issues will be fixed.

NASA Says It Completed Lunar Mission Rocket Engine’s Test Series

October 7, 2021 by Spencer Edward

NASA has achieved a major milestone in its journey towards launching a lunar mission. The agency has completed the rocket engine test series. It said that the rocket engine test series was successful. NASA will be launching a crewed mission to the Moon and then to Mars. According to a statement by the US space agency, the RS-25 single-engine Retrofit-2 test series was conducted on September 30. This takes the agency one ahead to develop engines for the Artemis program. NASA expects that the testing of engine parts is crucial in meeting the accuracy. It will help in advancing manufacturing techniques. This will lead to a reduction in the cost of the engine by around 30 percent. Besides, this will provide greater reliability and enhance the overall performance.

NASA said that operators fired the engine during the test for more than eight minutes. This is the same time that is required during the launch. It said that the test series provides valuable data related to the rocket. The information is used to make changes in engines needed for attaining greater results. The agency said that operators collected hot fire data and verified the capabilities of the engine. They also evaluated components to gauge the operational risk. The rocket engine test series was delayed by the agency due to Hurricane Ida in the last week of August.

The US space agency is planning to return humans to the Moon after five decades. It is building SLS which is touted to be the most powerful rocket in the world. It has four RS-25 engines. Besides, it carries boosters. The boosters provide thrust to the SLS at launch. When the four engines are fired together, they generate 1.6 million pounds of thrust at the launch. The agency wants to land the first woman and the next man on Moon by 2024. They will spend around 7 seven days on Moon, performing scientific experiments to prepare for future human missions to Mars.

NASA Awards Five Companies with Contracts Worth a Total of 146 Million to Build Lunar Landers

October 2, 2021 by Spencer Edward

NASA is going forward with plans to include competitiveness in the construction of Artemis Moon landers. The space program stated this week that it has chosen 5 US businesses to do extra work towards developing lunar lander ideas that would send individuals to the surface of the moon later on this decade. The total value of the awards was USD 146 million, with work scheduled to be finished over the course of the next 15 months. Blue Origin Federation (USD 25.6 million), Dynetics (USD 40.8 million), Lockheed Martin (USD 35.2 million), Northrop Grumman (USD 34.8 million), and SpaceX (USD 9.4 million) are among the selected contenders.

As per NASA, each one of these firms will continue to explore lander design concepts as well as analyze the landers’ efficiency, architecture, mission assurance requirements, and other factors. The businesses will also reduce the risks associated with the lunar landers by completing essential component testing and increasing the development of critical technologies. “A key Artemis objective is to build a long-term human settlement on the Moon through recurrent services utilizing lunar landers,” said Kathy Lueders, NASA’s chief of human spaceflight. “This crucial step provides the groundwork for US leadership in knowing more about the Moon, as well as understanding how to reside and operate in deep space for future missions deeper into the Solar System.”

The grants came approximately 5 months after NASA chose SpaceX to improve its Starship vehicle for a test Moon landing and eventual crew landing. NASA intended to pay two suppliers in April, however, Congress only authorized one-quarter of the funds requested. So, over the course of 5 years, SpaceX received a total amount of USD 2.89 billion. NASA announced plans to buy “repeat landing services” from American corporations to maintain a competitive atmosphere. After SpaceX’s test missions, this contract will fund operational outposts to the lunar surface.

The awards issued this week will “ultimately assist, define strategy and criteria for a future NASA’s Request for Proposal (RFP) to offer regular human transportation from the lunar orbit to the moon’s surface,” according to NASA. Congressional funding will decide the amount of future “recurring services” grants. Following SpaceX’s selection in April, the other two contenders for a lunar lander contract, the Blue Origin-led National Team, and Dynetics, filed a complaint with the US Government’s Accountability Office. That objection was refused, and Blue Origin had subsequently sued NASA in the United States Court of Federal Claims to have the contracts overturned. This debate is still ongoing. The group of national teams will likely remain intact as long as there is a possibility to secure the original contract, which was granted only to SpaceX. If that effort fails, the national team’s members are ready to go their own ways. The 15-month timeframe will allow them to consider alternative options.

China Has Sought to Join a Crucial Asia-Pacific Trade Deal

October 1, 2021 by Spencer Edward

As part of its efforts to enhance its influence in the region, China has sought to join a crucial Asia-Pacific trade deal. The announcement comes only one day after a landmark security agreement between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia was achieved. The United States established the deal that finally became the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to offset China’s hegemony. However, former President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from it in 2017. In a letter to New Zealand’s trade minister, Damien O’Connor, Chinese commerce minister, Wang Wentao stated that China has filed its application to join the free trade agreement.

The pact’s administrative headquarters is in New Zealand. As per the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Wang and Mr. O’Connor then conducted a conference call to determine upcoming procedures after China’s application. The initial Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was pushed by then-President Barack Obama as an economic union to counter China’s growing dominance in the Asia-Pacific. The United Kingdom formally began discussions to join the CPTPP in June, while Thailand has also expressed willingness in signing the agreement. Joining the CPTPP would be a significant step forward for China, particularly after signing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) with 14 other nations in November 2020.

The RCEP is the world’s biggest commercial bloc, with members including South Korea, China, Japan, Australia, as well as New Zealand. China’s declaration that it has officially sought to join the CPTPP comes only one day after the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia signed a historic security treaty in an effort to offset Beijing’s dominance in the Asia-Pacific region. This deal will allow Australia to develop nuclear-powered submarines for the first time, utilizing technology shared by the United States and the United Kingdom. According to experts, the agreement, which will also encompass artificial intelligence and other technologies, is Australia’s largest defense collaboration in decades.

Experts Claim Teenagers Of Any Eligible Age Range In The United States Remain Least Immunized Against COVID19

September 30, 2021 by Spencer Edward

The COVID19 shot that has been developed by Pfizer and BioNTech is accessible for people who are in the age group of 12 years and above. Still, teenagers of any eligible age group are least vaccinated in the United States. An analysis of data obtained from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shown that only 46 percent of people who are in the age range of 12 to 17 years have been vaccinated with two doses of COVID19 shot as compared to 83 percent of adults who are above 65 years of age. A non-profit organization called Neighbor2Neighbor has recently held their Vax to School event in Randolph County, Georgia. However, the rate of vaccination in Randolph County has been considerably low. As per last week’s data, only 10 percent of teenagers in the age range of 12 to 14 years have received only one dose of COVID19 shot in Randolph County. Data from the Georgia Department of Public Health have shown that nearly 20 percent of people in the age range of 12 to 19 years have taken only one dose of COVID19 vaccines. A pediatric infectious disease expert, Dr. Adam Ratner has said that a mistaken belief that has been circulating since the start of the pandemic might be a reason behind the low rate of vaccination among teenagers. Dr. Ratner is working at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine. He has said that he feels that there is still a lingering sense that it is a pandemic of elder people; however, it is not the case anymore. Dr. Adam Ratner who is associated with the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Infectious Diseases has said that with the rising number of cases among children and teenagers and the number of kids dealing with severe infection, COVID19 has become a real concern now but people are still in denial.

Many studies have shown that kids are at a far lower risk of being infected with severe COVID19 disease or die due to the disease, however, they can still contract the virus. Experts have said that September specifically has been a bad month for children. The data from the American Academy of Pediatrics have shown that a large number of kids have tested positive for COVID19 in the US this month as compared to any other month of the pandemic. Experts from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have said that now children as well are at risk of death due to COVID19. As per the CDC data, nearly 571 kids who have been under 17 years have lost their lives after being diagnosed with COVID19. The month of September has been quite hard for the US, particularly Randolph County. The rate of COVID19 has shot up twofold among teenagers who are in the age range of 14 to 17 years as compared to adults in the last month. The rate of infection among teens has been three times greater as compared to the case rate among elderly people who are above 65 years of age. Neighbor2Neighbor has been doing great work so far in Randolph County. The nonprofit organization has been going door-to-door to create awareness about vaccination and has been answering people’s queries regarding COVID19 shots. In the month of July, a huge number of adults have lined up at their vaccine clinic to get the vaccines; it has been a testament to the success of their campaign. Nearly 80 people have received vaccines at their vaccine clinic in Randolph County that has a population of 6900 people.

The nonprofit group has expected that the same number of teenagers will come to their teen clinics for vaccination. Nearly a dozen volunteers have turned a lunchroom of the Old J.B. Smith School into a vaccine clinic that can cater to nearly 40 teenagers at a time. As per the report, volunteers of the nonprofit organization have been practicing all COVID19 prevention measures such as social distancing, mask-wearing, and hygiene at the clinic. They have arranged refreshments for teenagers and made the clinic teenager-friendly. A volunteer of Neighbor2Neighbor, Sandra Willis has said that it is essential for everyone to take the shots to put an end to this devastating pandemic. Schools in Randolph County have been closed for many days in August. As per the report, a student from elementary school and four high school students have been diagnosed with COVID19 in the county. The officials from Randolph County have said that closing down schools has been a good decision for more than 800 students. The decision has allowed them some time to disinfect school buildings and buses. The officials have said that parents should keep a tab on their social and personal interactions.

They should be mingling with a small group of friends and family and continue to practice COVID19 appropriate measures. Schools have put daily temperature checks on the buses and regular screening in place since authorities have opened schools in the county. A school nurse, who has helped the nonprofit firm to install Vax to School Clinic, Angela Wilborn has said that cases appear to be in control as of now in the county. Wilborn has said that schools in Randolph County have made mask-wearing and face shields compulsory, which is a good practice. Experts have said that a recent graduate has tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the county and failed to survive the disease, since then, other students have become more vigilant about COVID19 appropriate behavior. The death of the recent graduate student has come as a reminder that COVID19 should be dealt with with caution. The medical chief of the COVID19 Vaccine Program of the Children’s National in Washington DC, Dr. Claire Boogaard has said that if parents and teenagers are well aware of the COVID19 threat, they will make vaccination a priority. However, teenagers do not weigh the risk in the same way as adults do. Usually, teenagers do not comprehend the long-term consequences of their decisions. Dr. Claire Boogaard has said that pediatricians have a duty to convince them to get the shots and help them get rid of vaccine hesitancy.
