Instacart has been hiring some of the famous names as part of a reshuffle in its ranks executive ranks. The grocery delivery giant has now nabbed another Facebook veteran. This time it has hired longtime Facebook ads chief Carolyn Everson. 49-year-old Everson had left the social media giant in June this year. She has joined the company as president and will look after a range of operations. The company said that she would oversee business development, retail, advertising, and human resources. Apart from overseeing all these divisions, Everson will also work as a strategic advisor to the CEO. She is set to join the company in her new role next month. Everson worked with Facebook for almost a decade before joining the company. The series of new hiring by the company comes ahead of its highly anticipated initial public offering. Before hiring Everson, Instacart had hired another Fidji Simo, who was head of the app at Facebook. Simo has joined the company as chief executive officer. Fidji Simo, former head of the Facebook app, took over as CEO. Simo said that he had worked with Everson for a long time and therefore knows how lucky Instacart is to have her leadership.
She had announced her decision to move on from the company in a post on June 9. Before taking this step, she was working as vice president of global marketing solutions at Facebook. She was the face of the social media giant for major advertisers and played a key role in managing relationships. Before joining Facebook, she worked with Microsoft Corporation. She looked advertising business of Microsoft’s different platforms including MSN, Windows Live, and Bing. With Everson joining the company, more than half of Instacart’s executive leadership team is held by women. Commenting on this, Simo said that have more women executives is important for Instacart as most of the customers of the company are women. “Women make up around 80 percent of customers of Instacart. Also, 70 percent of gig workers of the company are women. So it is our responsibility to have a leadership team that really represents the people you are trying to serve,” the chief executive officer of the company recently said. Instacart is the second-largest grocery delivery and pickup company in the United States. The San Francisco-based company has captured around 45 percent of the market as of June. The largest company in this area is Walmart. Instacart CEO feels that around 25 percent of groceries will be delivered online in the next five years.
Instacart provides services in the United States and Canada and offers same-day delivery and pickup. The company got extremely popular during the coronavirus pandemic. As the restrictions forced people to stay indoors, they started to use the delivery service. This resulted in a huge surge in the delivery demand and it catapulted the startup into a delivery giant. In order to fulfill it, the company had to hire thousands of workers. The exponential growth during the period put the company in a strong position in the delivery service market. The company continues to improve its services and this is why it recently inked a deal with e-commerce technology startup Fabric. As part of the deal, Fabric would equip Instacart with robots. Simo believes that the deployment of robots in fulfillment centers would help speed up delivery and will also cut costs. Instacart has not disclosed the financial terms of the partnership but terms it a step towards the ‘next-gen’ fulfillment process. Instacart also said in a statement that it is looking to build a new standalone warehouse.
